Commonly the printing stage is the final part of the creative process. Maya Rochat works different: “For me it is the moment to take out my tools & paint pots! CILIT BANG, spray paint, print on it, re-work, image overlay, distorting textures, I experiment with chemicals as a way of blurring the boundaries of my images.” She combines the physicality of the photography by painting, by creating organic patterns, chromatic alterations, excess of information and generating a slow ongoing process of images mutating, reflecting a world in a permanent change.
Maya Rochat (*1985) is a visual artist from Switzerland working in the expanded fields of photography, painting, video and installation. She takes the viewers into her own universe, generated out of symbolic elements of the analogue and digital photography. The origin of her inspiration is her immediate surrounding, landscapes get mixed with textures and portraits. Rochat creates works that vary in their visual codes and break with our habits of interpretation and perception.
Her works are presented in institutions such as Palais de Tokyo, Centre Culturel Suisse (library), TATE Modern, and Centre de la photographie Genève. International revues and magazines as Aperture, FOAM, Photography and culture, amongst others, publish her images.
