"DÉVISAGE, DÉFIGURE" is a series of pictures taken by VINCENT DE JONGE. During his first months in Stuttgart, he attended concerts and performances in a mostly unsuccessful attempt to connect with people and therefore often photographed them with his phone, from afar. This distance results in blurred images, where faces merge and shift in the dimly lit, colorful yet dark spaces of these events.
The title Dévisage Défigure plays on the French words visage (face) and figure (which can mean both face and shape), with dévisager meaning looking at a face intently, and défigurer implying the distortion or fragmentation of these faces, as if they have been changed to the point they are unrecognizable.
The series explores themes of connection and isolation, with each image representing a fleeting and blurred, incomplete encounter.
