“Zum Erden an die Luft“ is a visual study of presence, perception and atmosphere as a place of knowledge. The book is dedicated to the feeling that the world doesn’t show itself in plain shapes, but in the in-between. An attempt to touch the things that seem to withdraw. An approach to the ordinary, where being does not impose itself through meaning, but through presence.

The photographs, drawings and objects don’t follow a linear narrative, but are based on an atmospheric intuition – the idea that the essence of present is to be found in the objects themselves and our relationship to them. The captured moments – fleeting moods of light, formless condensations and accidental formations – have no claim to reality, but are a reaction to it. They manifest an interest in the intangible and in contemplative experiences, in phenomena that don’t address us and yet touch us.The book is intended as a visual record of sensitive perception that asks less what we see than how we see. Observation and desire, drawing and documentation are merged into one. Wind becomes material, shadow becomes motif, chance becomes thesis. The title reflects the poetic contradiction that captures the attitude of this work – an attempt to root oneself by opening up.

This openness contains the idea of not only recognizing loud and functional things as real. An invitation to uncertainty and perhaps a guide to being present. Zum Erden an die Luft not only explores why we miss things, but whether the ordinary is not the most subversive thing we can perceive in the face of an overtaxed perceptual space.
