GLI STATI DELLE ANIME is a participatory storytelling project that takes the form of an illustrated theatrical script. The Story behind the narration is that of the community of Norcia:
the story of the ties between the inhabitants, their memories, transformations, destinies, and also the history of the relationship with the territory. A territory that has suffered from depopulation, crises, earthquakes, but also returns and rest.
The starting point is the theatrical laboratory “Chi ha tempo non aspetti tempo”, that Maria Anna Stella conducted between 2019 and 2020 with the elderly of Norcia: a project that has allowed her to collect countless hours of stories, and above all to stay close to those who found themselves alone after the last telluric event (in 2017), in a condition of isolation worsen by the recent pandemic. The laboratory has received the support of the Cut of Perugia, ASL of Norcia, the municipality of Norcia and of the Cooperativa L'incontro.
Starting from the stories and returnings to visit their protagonists, during these two years Maria Anna, Giovanni Emilio Galanello and Francesca Gotti have developed a script, fictionalizing the real stories and putting them in dialogue with each other. It consists of a text and photographs, that suggest the features of the scenography and the characters. It’s a script for a ballroom, imagining that all the characters and memories come together in a day of celebration; the ballroom as a place of daily meeting and community celebration.
The screenplay can be used by anyone who wants to reinterpret it, read it, or use it as a teaching tool.
