In 2013, Peter Granser spent a month in the small town of Kamiyama (God Mountain) on the island of Shikoku. Shikoku is known for the O-Henro (遍路 ), a pilgrimage route that takes pilgrims to 88 temples and takes about 2.5 months to complete on foot.
Granser explored during his stay together with his wife Beatrice Theil, but only the area around the hut they lived in, not the whole island. But these impressions alone were haunting enough. It became a pilgrimage in miniature on which they collected 88 stones. They were stones full of character, which they sorted according to size and which Granser photographed on the spot.
