Zara Pfeifer (1984, Cologne) studied architecture and photography; her work addresses spatial and social phenomena. In addition to photography, videos, drawings and lectures communicate her explorations. In order to capture experiences, she takes an active part in addition to an observing role: whether in the social life in Alt-Erlaa or as a lorry passenger on a route through Europe. Her series "Du, meine konkrete Utopie" (You, my concrete utopia) - which exhibits the modernist housing project Alt Erlaa - was published by Kerber Verlag in 2017, won an award and was exhibited across Europe (also already at Galerie Kernweine) as well as the USA. In addition, Pfeifer has been a lecturer at the Vienna University of Technology since 2019 where she teaches in the fields of architecture and photography.

Who are the people who drive these vehicles all over Europe to ensure a seamless supply for society?

What distinguishes the architecture of the service stations, the motorways and the large-scale infrastructure facilities - such as transport ships for trucks?

In her work, Zara Pfeifer focuses on living spaces and people whom she accompanies photographically over a long period of time: This is also the case in her current long-term project "Good Street!", in which she focuses on truck drivers from different countries on their long journeys through Europe. For the first time, the Galerie Kernweine Foto und Raum is providing an insight into the specific living and architectural worlds of the truckers through a photo exhibition and a documentary video work by the artist Pfeifer.

The amount of trucks that travel the roads of Europe every day blur from the outside into a large, uniform group of travellers. Yet the goods they transport in all weathers and situations are as diverse as the landscapes they traverse. Through her photographic observation and personal accompaniment of the drivers, Pfeifer uncovers personal worlds of life and work: the drivers' cabins, their everyday work and the community among the drivers form the subject of the series.
